UN ने बदला दुनिया का नक्शा! अब Africa दिखेगा और बड़ा, America-Europe का घटेगा आकार

World News: संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा (United Nations General Assembly) ने दुनिया के नक्शे को लेकर एक ऐतिहासिक कदम उठाया है। UN ने ऐसे World Map को अपनाने के पक्ष में प्रस्ताव पारित किया है, जो धरती के अलग-अलग महाद्वीपों के वास्तविक आकार को पारंपरिक Mercator Map की तुलना में ज्यादा सटीक तरीके से दिखाता है। नए Equal Earth Projection में Africa, Latin America, South Asia और Oceania पहले की तुलना में ज्यादा बड़े नजर आएंगे, जबकि Europe और North America का आकार तुलनात्मक रूप से छोटा दिखाई देगा।

इस प्रस्ताव को 164 देशों का समर्थन मिला, जबकि United States ने इसके खिलाफ मतदान किया। छह देश मतदान में अनुपस्थित/abstain रहे। यह प्रस्ताव Togo की अगुवाई में सामने आया था और इसे African countries तथा African Union के अभियान का समर्थन मिला।

आखिर क्यों बदलना पड़ा दुनिया का नक्शा?

हम बचपन से जिस World Map को देखते आए हैं, उसमें अक्सर Mercator Projection का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। इसे Flemish cartographer Gerardus Mercator ने 1569 में विकसित किया था। इसका सबसे बड़ा फायदा यह था कि यह समुद्री navigation के लिए directions और angles को उपयोगी तरीके से दिखाता था।

लेकिन इसकी एक बड़ी समस्या है—जैसे-जैसे कोई क्षेत्र Equator से दूर और Poles के करीब जाता है, उसका आकार नक्शे पर वास्तविक आकार से काफी बड़ा दिखाई देने लगता है।

यही वजह है कि Mercator Map पर Greenland कई बार Africa के लगभग बराबर दिखाई देता है। जबकि वास्तविकता में Africa का क्षेत्रफल Greenland से करीब 14 गुना बड़ा है।

नया Equal Earth Map क्या बदलेगा?

UN द्वारा समर्थित Equal Earth Projection को इस तरह डिजाइन किया गया है कि अलग-अलग महाद्वीपों के relative surface areas को ज्यादा सही तरीके से दिखाया जा सके।

इस Map में:

  • 🌍 Africa ज्यादा बड़ा और वास्तविक आकार के करीब दिखाई देगा
  • 🌎 Latin America का आकार ज्यादा स्पष्ट नजर आएगा
  • 🌏 South Asia और Oceania भी अपेक्षाकृत बड़े दिखेंगे
  • 🇪🇺 Europe का visual size कम होगा
  • 🇺🇸 North America भी Mercator की तुलना में छोटा दिखाई देगा
  • 🧊 Greenland का विशाल दिखने वाला आकार काफी कम नजर आएगा

Equal Earth Projection को cartographers Tom Patterson, Bojan Šavrič और Bernhard Jenny ने 2018 में विकसित किया था। इसका उद्देश्य दुनिया के landmasses के area को ज्यादा accurately represent करना था।

Africa को लेकर इतना बड़ा मुद्दा क्यों?

Africa दुनिया के सबसे बड़े महाद्वीपों में से एक है, लेकिन पारंपरिक Mercator Map पर इसकी visual representation वास्तविकता को ठीक से नहीं दिखाती।

इसका असर केवल geography तक सीमित नहीं माना जाता। समर्थकों का कहना है कि Maps लोगों की दुनिया को समझने की perception को प्रभावित करते हैं। Togo के Foreign Minister Robert Dussey ने UN में तर्क दिया कि maps education और collective perceptions को प्रभावित करते हैं और distorted representation पीढ़ियों तक गलत धारणा बनाए रख सकती है।

UN में कितने देशों ने किया समर्थन?

United Nations General Assembly में प्रस्ताव को भारी बहुमत मिला।

164 देशों ने प्रस्ताव के पक्ष में वोट किया, जबकि United States ने विरोध में मतदान किया और छह देशों ने abstain किया। हालांकि यह फैसला legally binding नहीं है। इसका उद्देश्य member states को education, institutions और digital mapping सहित विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में ज्यादा accurate map projection अपनाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना है।

America ने क्यों किया विरोध?

इस प्रस्ताव को लेकर United States ने आपत्ति जताई। अमेरिकी पक्ष ने इसे एक तरह के ideological agenda के रूप में देखा और कहा कि संयुक्त राष्ट्र को दुनिया की वास्तविक समस्याओं पर ध्यान देना चाहिए।

हालांकि प्रस्ताव के समर्थकों का कहना है कि यह किसी देश की राजनीतिक ताकत बदलने की कोशिश नहीं, बल्कि दुनिया को geographic scale के लिहाज से ज्यादा accurate तरीके से दिखाने का प्रयास है।

क्या अब Mercator Map पूरी तरह खत्म हो जाएगा?

नहीं।

यह समझना जरूरी है कि UN के इस फैसले का मतलब यह नहीं है कि Mercator Projection को दुनिया भर में तुरंत प्रतिबंधित कर दिया गया है।

Mercator Projection आज भी navigation और कुछ विशेष cartographic applications में उपयोगी है। UN का प्रस्ताव मुख्य रूप से ऐसे maps के इस्तेमाल को बढ़ावा देता है जो continental land areas को ज्यादा accurately represent करते हैं।

यानी आने वाले समय में schools, educational material, media और digital platforms पर Equal Earth जैसे alternative projections का इस्तेमाल बढ़ सकता है।

भारत के लिए इसका क्या मतलब?

नए projection में South Asia भी पारंपरिक Mercator Map की तुलना में ज्यादा वास्तविक आकार में दिखाई देगा।

इसका महत्व इसलिए भी है क्योंकि South Asia दुनिया के सबसे ज्यादा आबादी वाले क्षेत्रों में से एक है। नए map projection से students और सामान्य लोगों को दुनिया के अलग-अलग regions के वास्तविक geographic scale को समझने में मदद मिल सकती है।

हालांकि यह बदलाव भारत की वास्तविक भौगोलिक सीमाओं या क्षेत्रफल को नहीं बदलता। सिर्फ पृथ्वी को flat map पर दिखाने का तरीका बदलता है।

असल में बदली है दुनिया या सिर्फ नक्शा?

यही इस पूरे फैसले का सबसे दिलचस्प पहलू है।

दुनिया नहीं बदली है—उसे दिखाने का तरीका बदल रहा है।

पृथ्वी गोल है, लेकिन जब उसे एक flat sheet या rectangular digital screen पर दिखाया जाता है तो किसी न किसी स्तर पर distortion होना लगभग अनिवार्य है। अलग-अलग map projections अलग चीजों को प्राथमिकता देते हैं—कहीं shape, कहीं direction और कहीं area को।

Equal Earth का focus land area को ज्यादा सही तरीके से दिखाने पर है।

इसलिए UN का यह कदम केवल नया नक्शा अपनाने की कहानी नहीं है, बल्कि यह सवाल भी उठाता है कि हम जिस दुनिया को Maps के जरिए देखते हैं, क्या वह वास्तव में वैसी ही है जैसी धरती पर मौजूद है?

एक बात तय है—अब World Map को देखने का हमारा नजरिया बदल सकता है।
