Microsoft is also increasingly positioning AI alongside traditional developer skills. Its developer resources include training on building AI applications and agents, as well as using GitHub Copilot as an AI-powered programming assistant.

For students, the takeaway is therefore not simply to learn coding instead of AI. The emerging advantage could come from learning both.

A student who understands programming can use AI coding tools more effectively, identify mistakes in AI-generated code and build more complex software instead of depending blindly on an AI system.

What Students Should Learn Alongside AI ? 

For students entering technology in 2026, coding does not have to be an either-or choice between traditional programming and artificial intelligence. A stronger approach is to build solid programming fundamentals first and then learn how to use AI tools as part of the development process.
